Who knew?

July 7, 2009
Last Saturday, my family and I did something that we usually never do together…we went hiking. Now, if you know me at all, you realize what a big deal it is for me to tromp around in the forest for any extended period of time. But I tell you, I felt called. So, while most folks were BBQ-ing, parade watching and block party-ing, the St.Jacques clan was exploring the magic that is Mill’s Reservation : )

At this point in our journey, we were approaching the highest ridge of the cliff. I had to remind myself where I was. Normally afraid of heights, I was awestruck by the stillness and the indescribable beauty that welcomed me as I climbed each rock formation.

I was so unprepared for this experience in the best way. I literally felt like I was in another dimension — everything around us was humming and pulsing with energy and so alive. It’s as if the forest had it’s own heartbeat.

This little guy landed right in front of us on our way back from the ridge!

This little guy landed right in front of us as we were walking back from the ridge!

As we emerged from the forest and returned to our car, I felt such contentment and gratitude for the experience and everything the Reservation had to share with us  (even the snake that crossed Lola’s path up on the ridge!! Although she probably does not share my sentiments…)

Who knew one family could experience such an other-worldly adventure just 10-minutes away from their home??
